How to install multiple MySQL instances on a single host using MyEnv?

We have been asked several times by MySQL users about how to install multiple MySQL instances on a single host.
Typically, this is required when testing different MySQL versions or MySQL servers (MySQL server, Percona server and MariaDB server) while no available resources are available.
Sometimes, it is even required to install multiple MySQL instances on a single production server.

MyEnv for MySQL Multi-Database set-ups

This week I showed one of my customers our MyEnv. He was very interested in it and suggested to make it known in public. In fact MyEnv is available for download already several years...

But I did not have the heart yet to announce it more publicly because it was not end user ready at all. So I used the weekend to make it nicer, consolidated some of the code, dropped old stuff etc. Now I think it is acceptable to use for public but not perfect.

MyEnv (MySQL and MariaDB BasEnv)

What is MyEnv?

MyEnv is a tool to run several MySQL or MariaDB database instances on ONE host. You can even run multiple database instances with different binary versions. We call this multi-instance set-ups.

With MyEnv a multi-instance set-up is more comfortable to handle than with mysqld_multi (old) or Systemd services (new) and it provides more useful functionality.
